Prisoner

[edit]

I've never heard read or seen anything that ever stated that the song "Prisoner" was scheduled for release as a single after "I Don't Wanna Cry" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.232.130.23 (talk) 17:34, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Mariahcarey-usacdalbum2picture41.jpg

[edit]

Image:Mariahcarey-usacdalbum2picture41.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Some links have errors like link 31 and 50 is dead (doesn't allow me to see info) , 53 is a DAB link (it talks about Madonna).--Blackjacks101 (talk) 00:55, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actual Review

Lead

  • on Columbia Records. -> by Columbia Records
  • Billboard Top Pop Albums -> why not just Billboard 200
  • reaching the top ten in Australia, Canada -> you just said Canada

Background

  • that he deal -> that he would deal
  • Mottola, very confident in her -> better if is said “Mottola’s confidence in Mariah led him to hire
  • How is Don Ienner or his quote relevant?

Recording and composition

  • Seven of Carey and Margulies' tracks made the albums final cut -> redundant you just said this
  • Key. -> uncaptilize (is that a word =D lol)
  • In the Second quote the “i” needs to be capital

Chart Performance

  • Billboard Top Pop Albums -> Billboard 200
  • to date, the -> to date, this is the
  • 155 million copies -> somebody went 5 crazy
  • Mariah Carey was nominated for the 1991 Grammy Award for Album of the Year, while "Vision of Love" received nominations in the categories of Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Carey won for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and also received the award for Best New Artist.[3] - this should be put in Critical Reception

Singles

  • The Vision of Love section is wayyy to long it makes it sound kind of biased towards the single, if the reader wants this information they can go to the Vision of Love page. I will re-read this after the change is made. It also has no mention of the 5th single again showing a slight biased towards the most successful singles.

Live Performances

  • performed live in Sweden for the first time. -> where was it performed,

These are some problems I noticed, fix them and I will continue with the review.--Blackjacks101 (talk) 02:18, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have now put the article on hold for 7 days, but as I can see Nathan like me your in exams should I will be easy on the time line. I would always offer an extension if needed =D--Blackjacks101 (talk) 19:40, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

KK i just a few little problems with the Single section still. I don't thing you should put direct quotes when describing Vision of Love, just adding that it was critically lauded is enough, just so you don't sound too biased. You could maybe reference how many stars one reviewer gave it, or grade they give it...if any of them did. But I just find the quotes too much. Other then that I'll pass as soon as that is done. Great Job!--Blackjacks101 (talk) 01:30, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Mariah Carey (album)

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Mariah Carey (album)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "austria":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 08:16, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cassette cover art

There is consensus against the new image. AlbinoFerret 04:45, 17 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The cover art is vertical, but it is further detailed. Shall I include it or replace the longstanding infobox image? George Ho (talk) 17:55, 23 August 2015 (UTC) --George Ho (talk) 20:48, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The CD and vinyl editions cropped out some details, Jack. --George Ho (talk) 14:51, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't appear to be the point. What is the point is that you need a RS that states that this is vitally important and not just some trivial bit. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 15:25, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'll clarify, FoCuSandLeArN, assuming you haven't owned the album: the CD/vinyl artwork is a headshot of the woman with her shoulders and black straps. The cassette artwork shows her dress and arms. And no, the image is not clipped; the CD artwork is just the way it is. --George Ho (talk) 15:05, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ha! No, I haven't. So what do you want to replace the infobox image with? FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 19:27, 15 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It depends on consensus. That means whatever you want, FoCuSandLeArN: one or two images in an infobox. Do you want the cassette image and/or CD image in the infobox? --George Ho (talk) 02:24, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Is the cassette image even on Commons? FoCuS contribs; talk to me! 02:32, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Front cover is non-free and not in Commons, FoCuSandLeArN. George Ho (talk) 02:59, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would keep the current picture in the infobox. This is far from being the only album where the cover of the cassette version is the same photo as used on LP/CD but cropped differently because of the dimensions of the inlay card/cassette case – in fact, I would go so far as to say it became the norm from the early 1980s onwards to use differently cropped versions of the same photo for LP/CD and for cassette, so we would have to consider the majority of the albums released during this decade if we wanted to decide which cover art to use in Wikipedia articles. Apart from being easier to include in the infobox, the square version is the better one to use because I would imagine that far more people are familiar with and bought the CD rather than the cassette. It's also the picture that will be used on Amazon, AllMusic, and any other website where people look for information. Richard3120 (talk) 20:16, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mariah Carey's debut album is certified 4x Platinum in New Zealand, not just platinum

Platinum certifications in New Zealand are 15,000 units for albums, and not 10,000, so the sales are 60,000 :) Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_New_Zealand_Music_Chart Justabadguy (talk) 18:11, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
